This May, we invited students in Religious Education classes across the Diocese to share their artistic vision of Mary, Star of the Sea—and the response was truly moving.
Through color, symbolism, and faith-filled imagination, our young artists beautifully portrayed the Blessed Mother as a guiding light across life’s oceans. We are proud to showcase the winning entries that stood out for their creativity, reverence, and heartfelt expression.
Itzel’s painting captures something truly special. In the middle of dark, choppy waters, we see Mary—gentle, calm, and strong—guiding someone in a small wooden boat. She stands at the front, pointing the way forward. Above them, the Holy Spirit shines down in the form of a dove, lighting up the sky. The words at the bottom say it all: “To Jesus, Through Mary.”
This piece beautifully shows what Mary, Star of the Sea, means to us. Even when life feels stormy, she’s there—steady, peaceful, and always leading us closer to her Son. Itzel’s use of light, color, and symbolism is powerful and heartfelt. A well-deserved first place!
